"Placing a religious ideal into its midst is not right, and serves no purpose except to alter a purely patriotic tradition into one that satisfies the religious bent of the majority. That is exactly what the First Amendment was written to preclude."

If that *is* what the First Amendment is supposed to do, why would the founding fathers use the US capital building and other federal buildings as places of worship? Why would George Washington order people to attend religious services? Why did the founding fathers place such of a reliance on God in their personal memo's and letters and whatnot?

"Plenty of the founding fathers were religious, so it's not surprising that they would make personal memos about God.

But we are not the past and many more people here are NOT religious. So we must act accordingly. Stop trying to live in the past!

PrettyInPink,

The founding fathers mentioned God more than in memo's, did you not listen to me? Have you read any of the inaugural addresses from Presidents Lincoln to Washington? Do you not realize that the CAPITAL building was used as a place of worship? Did you know that many speeches to the Congress mentioned and gave credit to God?

Also, its something like 95% of Americans affiliate themselves with one religion or another. To say that "and many more people here are NOT religious. So we must act accordingly." means NOTHING! It is a non-issue. There are 300,000,000 million Americans. Many = 10? There is something ilke 15% of the American population that believes that Elvis is still alive. There is nothing you cannot get someone to believe in America, so to use the fact that some people do not believe in X, Y, or Z as a foundational point to your argument is just stupid.

You may tell me to stop "living in the past" but you're trying to live like Western Europe that is declining.economically, socially, morally, etc etc etc. I've lived in Europe (currently live in America), I've traveled extensively in Europe, and I know a great deal about Europe. If you think I am stupid for wanting to "live in the past" as you say, how moronical is it for you to want to live a lifestyle that is currently failing miserably?

I love it how Liberals tend to ignore that which is crucial to their opinions. One example is how Liberals believe that the 1st Amendment clearly says that there is a "seperation of church and state." Also, I love how Liberals believe that the founding fathers put the "seperation of church and state" into the US Constitution because they knew the "dangers of Christianity" and the lies that it brings and so on and so forth.

I am continually confuzzled to where Liberals get the "seperation of church and state" from the 1st Amendment especially since when it is never even in there. Wow, talk about embarassing.

"Statesmen...may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securly stand" -John Adams

"We have this day restored the Sovereign, to Whom alone men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven and... from the rising to the setting sun, may His Kingdom come." -Samuel Adams

"Attended public service at the Capitol where Mr. Ratoon, an Episcopalian clergyman from Baltimore preached a swermon." John Quincy Adams 30-OCT-1803

"Before God, I believe the hour has come. My judgment approves this measure, and my whole heart is in it. All that I have, and all that I am, and all that I hope in this life, I am now ready to here stake upon it. And I leave off as I began, that live or die, survive or perish, I am for the Declaration. It is my living sentiment, and by the blessing of God it shall be my dying sentiment, Independence now, and Independence for ever." -John Adams

"No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand which conducts the affairs of men more than the people of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency." -President George Washington, part of Inaugural Address.

For those who believe that the founding fathers were actually staunch athiests who believe that religion and especially that wicked Christianity is evil, then they need to learn some history and should start by reading some of the founding father's personal memo's, speeches, letters, and looking into their lives.

Today is Friday and tomorrow is Saturday.

If yesterday was Thursday then the day before that means it was Wednesday.

Napoleon III defeated for the first time in 50 years. As a result, France cannot support the Confederates for another year.
